TEA caffeine good or bad?– Indian tea/Chai  is considered calming, vitalizing and mentally clarifying!!

TEA/CHAI – “Chai” often refers to a tea drink made by blending black tea with milk and fresh masala like ginger, Caffeine in Tea varies quite a bit. The longer the tea (or tea bag) is steeped in water, the more caffeine will be present.In India black tea is prefered. Green Tea contains less caffeine than black tea. Though green tea it has good amount of antioxidants,  it’s a myth that it increase the process weight loss.

Tea- 1 cup(250ml/8oz) caffeine content (brewed)- 40- 70 mg

Coffee-1 cup(250ml/8oz)-caffeine content(brewed) -95-200mg.

Benefits- caffeine ingestion prior to exercise acts as a  decreased sense of overall exertion, which may lead to improved enjoyment of exercise.Caffeine is a powerful central nervous system stimulant, acting particularly on the brain and  its widely used as stimulant.Caffeine stimulates the sympathetic nervous system that is responsible for your fight-or-flight response. During the fight-or-flight response, stress hormones such as cortisol cause your body’s stores of fat and glucose to be released in preparation for physical exertion.

low to moderate intake of caffeine has few known health effects. Limit your intake to 200 milligrams per day, or about 1 cups of coffee/2 cups tea.If you exceed 500 milligrams per day, you may experience the effects of an activated sympathetic nervous system including insomnia, nervousness, irritability, digestive problems, fast heartbeat.

Moreover adding milk and the blends of special masala( like Cinnamon,cardamom,ginger,cloves,nutmeg etc has inherently nutritional beneficial properties. The size of Indian cup tea are small(40-50ml) in a cup, So chai doesn’t give you nervousness, jitters like a strong coffee,You would have to drink three cups of chai /tea to achieve the same amount of caffeine you get in a single cup of coffee.
