Anybody wondering that are we overweight? do we need weight loss? Than we need to know our BMI. When we all go to gym or to a dietitian first thing they do is check our BMI. What is BMI- Body Mass Index (BMI) is a convenient way to estimate how much fat is on your body. Knowing your BMI can help determine extra weight and other conditions that are associated with increased body fat.
Well there are lot of online apps, Just put height and weight online and we have our BMI. we don’t need to calculate our BMI.

BMI= Weight (kg) / (Height (m) x Height (m)). so how do we calculate BMI FOR EXAMPLE- (I am taking my height and weight)
MY CURRENT WEIGHT IS 126 LBS (for kgs i divided /2.2) = (126/2.2) =57.27
my height is 5 FEET 4 INCHES
so in meters 1ft=12inches
so 5X12=60+4=64 inches
again 1 inch=2.54cm (so 64×2.54) =161.28cm
1mt=100 cm (1.61mt)2 =2.59
so my BMI =kg/(mt)2
My BMI (22.1) falls under normal category in below chart given.
The standard weight status categories associated with BMI ranges for adults are shown in the following table.
BMI Weight Status
• Below 18.5 Underweight
• 18.5 – 24.9 Normal or Healthy Weight
• 25.0 – 29.9 Overweight
• 30.0 and Above Obese
But remember-BMI does not take into account that muscle weighs more than fat. For this reason, a person with a muscular build (i.e. football player or wrestler) may be misclassified as overweight. In this situation waist circumferences are a better measure of disease risk.
